My primary research interest has been microorganisms that proliferate at elevated temperatures. The early studies were with thermophilic eubacteria and hyperthermophilic archaebacteria. Later work focused on thermotolerant mutants of E. coli in order to take advantage of their extensive genetic background. I serve as a member of the Steering Committee for the Emerging Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Group at The New York Academy of Sciences.
