How many lives have been saved by penicillin ? Good question but
probably no real answer. It is a little like "How many angels can dance
on the head of a pin" !!!

Internet sources that I have seen estimate 200 million, but this is
simply a guess. One could presumably compare specific death rates for
various conditions before and after the use of penicillin. I do not
know whether this has been done and one would also have to take into
account the use of the sulfa drugs. It would be a great deal of work to
derive this information.
