S. Marvin Friedman (1929–2015) was Professor Emeritus of the Department of Biological Sciences at Hunter College of the City University of New York. He was part of the team for 5 years, during which he was a steadfast contributor. His microbiological interests extended far and wide, reflecting his familiarity with both prevailing and less common aspects of our science. With a curiosity that ranged from environmental to pathogenic microbiology, Marvin had a special ear for exciting stories. His choices dealt with inspiring and frequently overlooked material, often focusing on the social aspects of bacterial life. His long-standing love and enthusiasm for "considering the small things" were self-evident.
